Drawings

Before I ever picked up a paintbrush, drawing was my favorite pastime. In my closet I have stacks of sketchbooks tracing back to when I was four years old. Most of these drawings have not, and will never see the light of day. Unlike painting, drawing is very private. You don’t need a studio space, or good lighting, or room to let your canvas dry. I think many of my drawings reflect that privacy as I often scrawl notes alongside an illustration that are legible and meaningful only to myself. Despite the personal dimension of the work, drawings sometimes give me the foundation for compositions of larger pieces or a motif that ends up in a design project. Drawing will always be a favorite mode of artistic expression and is the fundamental building block from which all my other work stems from. Although I have works from when I was five, I’m only showing works that begin in the year 2017 on this website. The page is ordered chronologically from most recent to five years ago. Almost all of the work is pen on paper.
